NICHOLAS CHOI

7th term product design student at ArtCenter College of Design.

I am very interested in the innovative side of industrial design that brings about new perspectives. I like to focus on ideas that have yet not existed and I am not afraid to experiment with inspirations that are strange and different. I have an interest in sustainability as well, so I created projects designed with environmental impact in mind.

HOMETOWN

Born and Raised in Redondo Beach

I spent most of my life near a body of water, enjoying the sea breezy and rough sand. I have not really left my hometown to explore the world, and despite my beautiful city, I had always wanted to leave for something more.

EXTREME ATHLETICS

Skateboarding and Snowboarding

I love being active and I really enjoy being outdoors. I often feel trapped within my own home, so take on make activities relating to extreme sports. Of all the sports that I have participated in, I enjoy skateboarding and snowboarding the most as it was a sport that I have grown up with since I was 9 years old.

TEAMS AND CLUBS

FRC ROBOTICS AND HIP HOP

In high school, I was in multiple clubs and the one that had the strongest impact on me was Robotics. I always felt restricted growing up, so I wanted to try something outside my comfort zone, so I joined hip-hop to explore new possibilities.

REAL ESTATE AND CONSTRUCTION

Work Outside Design

I am well versed in the real estate field with a background in construction and a licensed realtor. I have flipped many homes, and have constructed my current living space (shown on the right). My goal in the future is to have financial freedom so I can become a designer for fun rather than a designer for money.

HOBBY - PODCASTING AND MUSIC

HINDSIGHT

This originally started as a project to practice my production skills in music composition and storytelling but quickly transformed into an emotional observatory of the lives of people close to me. The podcast intends to find interesting stories in the lives of “average people” because I believe everyone has a story to tell and I’m just there to help them tell it. I learned much about the hidden passions and the strange interpersonal intricacies that everyone has but does not speak about. This podcast is about the Anthropocene, what motivates us to be who we want to be, and how our previous experiences change our perceptions of what we make of ourselves and the world around us.
